1st Weekend Report: Rock On 2 Fails To Rock At The Box Office; Chaar Sahibzaade Still Better

Tuesday, 15 November 2016

Rock On 2 hasn’t really rocked on! The film had a poor start and the trending over the weekend wasn’t spectacular either. As a result, just 7.01 crore came in and these are just not the kind of numbers that the makers would have expected when they decided to make the sequel of the 2008 release, Rock On. That film had collected 6.25 crore in its opening weekend and the fact that the sequel is collecting just marginally more pretty much tells the tale. Rock On had still managed to collect four times the weekend in its final tally and the sequel will not be able to match this feat since the response is hardly flattering.

In fact, when compared to the other releases in 2016, Rock On 2 can be compared to Freaky Ali and Great Grand Masti, both of which collected 8.5 crore each in their opening weekend!

Chaar Sahibzaade – Rise of Banda Singh Bahadur is better, considering a far lesser screen count at which the animation film has been released. With 2 crore* coming in, the film has seen some sort of traction in Punjab and Delhi NCR belt. It would be interesting to see how it holds up in the weekdays now as that is pretty much required for the film to stay in contention for a longer run in weeks to come.

Dongri Ka Raja, Ishq Junoon and Yeh Hai Lollypop had restricted release in select screens and the collections are way too low to register an impact.

Rock On 2: 1st Saturday Box Office Collections

Farhan Akhtar starrer Rock On 2 showed slight  growth on its second day. The film which took a dismal start, managed to collect approximately 2.30 crores on its second day according to early estimates.

It now stands with a collection of 4.32 crores* at the domestic box office. It is performing way lower than Farhan’s last release Wazir and also Shraddha Kapoor’s Baaghi.

The demonetization move has truly affected badly for this film’s business. Also, with overall no positive word of mouth, the film is headed to a poor lifetime collection.

Rock On 2’s first weekend collection itself is expected to be approximately 6 crores which is extremely poor.

Rock On 2, Chaar Sahibzaade: Rise of Banda Singh Bahadur | Friday Collections

Saturday, 12 November 2016

There wasn’t really any spark at the Box Office yesterday as entertainment was the last thing in the mind of ‘aam junta’. With focus on getting money from the ATMs and exchanging old currency notes, it was tough to imagine even regular Friday audiences making beelines for the new releases. Moreover, considering the fact that there wasn’t really much of a hype surrounding either of the two new major releases, it was anyways an uphill task for theaters to show much of collections.

Still, Chaar Sahibzaade: Rise of Banda Singh Bahadur [RBSB] at least worked in some pockets and brought out that segment of audience which had lapped up the first in the series. The film has seen a good sized release in Punjabi and Hindi and that has helped it open to decent numbers in Punjab and Delhi NCR belt. With 1.75 crore* coming in, the film has taken some sort of a start and now it has to be seen what’s the kind of distance it would eventually cover.

Rock On 2 has just not managed to rise as the collections were quite low at 2.25 crore*. These are less than half of what one would have expected even in the worst case scenario and it is clear that both demonetization as well as lack of interest amongst the audiences has hit the film hard. Farhan Akhtar’s last release as a main lead, Wazir, had opened to 5.57 crore and Rock On 2 Day One is nowhere close to that. In fact the collections are lesser than films like Fitoor [3.61 crore], TE3N [2.61 crore] and Great Grand Masti [2.5 crore] which pretty much tells the tale. The film would need a miracle from this point on!

Shivaay: 3rd Friday Box Office Collections

Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay is struggling to make it to the 100 crore club. The film has dropped in the second week and on its third Friday, collected approximately 65 lacs. It now stands with collection of 94.55* crores at the domestic box office.

One of the major setback for all films this week has been the demonetization move of the government, which has left the theaters empty. Also, since Shivaay had its stronghold in single screens, this move has affected it even worse.

With the new release, Rock On 2 taking a low start, Shivaay still has a chance to sustain itself in the third week.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in lead roles dropped on its third Friday. The film collected approximately, 75 lacs* on Friday, thus taking its total collection to 105.25 crores* at the domestic box office.

Also due to the demonetization move by the government, there has been a decline in the movie business at theaters.

The film will be soon beating the lifetime collections of Housefull 3 over its third weekend. Interestingly, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil became Karan Johar’s first 100 crore grosser.

Rock On 2 : 1st Friday Box Office Collections Early Estimates

Farhan Akhtar and Shraddha Kapoor starrer opened to an extremely low occupancy yesterday morning. Early estimates suggest that the film collected merely 2.5 crores* on its opening day. This is quite a disappointing start for the musical drama.

One of the major setbacks for this film was the recent Government ban of Rs. 500 and 1000 notes which left a lot of people dependent mainly on electronic cash.
